American Girl Doll Summer Shorts

Difficulty level: *** Intermediate

Free Doll Shorts Crochet Pattern

Materials: Aunt Lydia (affiliate link)'s crochet thread Size #10 blue - 1 ball and some amount of white thread for belt.
Belt buckle for dolls.

Crochet hook B (2.25 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge: 26 st x 8 rows = 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm)

Abbreviations:
Sc – single crochet
Dc – double crochet
Ch - chain


Shorts

Shorts are worked from top down in 2 pieces, then the pieces are sewn together; seam goes at front, back and inside leg.
Chain 3 in the beginning of row counts as 1 dc

Chain 55.

Row 1: 1 sc in the second chain from the hook, 1 sc in each chain (= 54 sc), turn.

Row 2: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each of the next 2 sc, *ch 1, skip sc, 1 dc in the next sc – repeat from * across 25 times, 1 dc in the last sc, turn.

Rows: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), *1 dc in the next dc, 1 dc in chain-space – repeat from * across till the last 3 dc, 1 dc in each of the last 3 dc (=54 dc), turn.

Rows 4, 5 and 6:  ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each dc (=54 dc), turn.

Rows 7, 8, 9, 10, 11: make increases at the end of each row by making 2 dc in the last dc: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each dc across, 2 dc in the last dc, turn.

Row 12: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each dc across, chain 6, turn.

Row 13: 1 dc in the 5th chain from the hook (3-ch space counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in the 6th and 1 dc in the 7th chains, 1 dc in each dc across, chain 8, turn.

Row 14: 1 dc in the 5th chain from the hook (3-ch space counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in the 6th, 7th,8th, 9th chains, 1 dc in each dc across, turn.

Rows 15 through 20: in these rows make decreases in the end of each row: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), skip 1 dc, 1 dc in the next dc, 1 dc in each dc across till the last 2 dc, skip the first dc, 1 dc in the last dc. Turn.

Row 21: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in the next dc, *ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in the next dc – repeat from * across, turn.

Row 22: ch 1, 1 sc in each dc and 1-chain space.

Tie off. Cut thread.

Crochet the second part in the same way.


Finishing

Join the middle seam: back to back and front to front with one seam. Join the leg seams.

Belt

Ch 117. 1 dc in the 5th chain from the hook, 1 dc in each ch across. Tie off. Sew the buckle to one of the ends.
Thread the belt into the waist holes of the shorts.

Is there a pattern for the belt? You say to just crochet a belt, as if we should know how wide and long it should be! Thanks for your help!
