Free Knitting Pattern

Size: 12/14 (42/44)

Materials: 100% wool worsted weight yarn 1 skein 50 g/144 yds (110 m)

black - 11 skeins

dark red - 2 skeins

light grey, white, light blue, blue, red - 1 skein each.

Needles 2.5 (3 mm) and 4 (3.5 mm), circular 2.5 (3 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

7 black buttons

Gauge:24 st x 30-31 row = 4" x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm) with stocking stitch.

25 st x 30-31 row = 4" x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm) with Fairisle knitting.

The width of cable is 1.2" (3 cm)

Patterns:

Rib:1 k, 1 p

Fairisle pattern:see charts.

Cable:1, 3, 5 and 7 rows - 1 p, 8 k, 1 p.

2, 4, 6 and 8 - 1 k, 8 p, 1 k.

Row 9: 1 p, C8F (Cable 8 Front), 1 p.

Repeat rows 1-10.

Directions: Back and front consists of 3 parts each. The middle and sides parts of back and front are knitted as one piece each.

Middle part: begins from the back bottom. Cast on 80 st on needles 4 (3.5) with black yarn and knit Fairisle pattern from chart 1, repeating the pattern. When you knit 23" (58 cm), cast off 44 st in the midlle and then continue to knit each part (18 st each) separately following chart 2.. To shape the neck cast on 1 st x 2 times, 2 st x 4 times, 3st x 4 times in every 2nd row. Continue to knit according to chart and then with black yarn. Cast off at 23" (58 cm) from the shoulder line.

Left Side Panel: begins from the back bottom. Cast on 44 st on needles 4 (3.5) with black yarn and knit: 1 end st, 10 st of cable, 32 st stocking stitch, 1 end st. Knit 23" (58 cm) plus 23" (58 cm). Cast off.
Knit right side panel same as left, mirroring the pattern.

Sleeve:Cast on 50 st on needles 2.5 (3) with black yarn and knit 3" (7.5 cm) of rib. In the lst row increase adding 36 st evenly. Continue stocking stitch with needles 4 (3.5 mm), adding 30 st on each side (1 st every 4 rows). Knit the following stripes:

36 rows black

2 rows blue

2 rows light blue

2 rows blue

34 rows black

2 rows light grey

2 rows white

2 rows light grey

34 rows black

2 rows dark red

2 rows red

2 rows dark red

Cast off.

Finishing: Join seams of the middle panel with the seams of side panels. Join top of the sleeves with the other side of the side panels. Join sleeve seams and side seams.Pick up on circular 2.5 (3 mm) needles approx 200 st with black yarn on the bottom of the jacket. Knit rib for 2" (5 cm), cast off.

Pick up on circular 2.5 (3 mm) needles approx 140 st with black yarn on each vertical side of the front of jacket and knit stocking stitch to make button band. On the right band in row 5 and row 15 make 6 buttonholes as follows: cast off 4 st, cast on 4 st in the next row. The first button holes starts from the 5th st, there are 19 st between them. Row 11 all purl st to make a fold. Continue with stocking st rows 12-20. Cast off. Fold bands and hand sew.

For the neck band pick up on circular 2.5 (3 mm) needles 120 st with black yarn on the neck edge and the short sides of buttonhole bands and knit 10 rows of stocking stitch, making a buttonhole in the 1st row on the 4th st. Row 11 all purl to make a fold. Row 12-20 stocking stitch, cast off. Fold the neck band and sew.

From light grey, blue and red yarn crochet 2 chain "ropes" 4' long. Wave them inside the cable in the back and front of the jacket and tie them on the inside. Sew buttons.
